Quintin Gerard W., Nathan Mitchell, and Annie Malee team up to deliver a sparkling smooth jazz version of the classic “The Way You Look Tonight”.
“The Way You Look Tonight” is a popular jazz standard with many covers. But the new contemporary jazz version produced by Annie Malee is a creative twist on this old song, which stands out among its many jazz peers.
Quintin Gerard’s sax solos soar with sophisticated melodies and riffs. His smooth, lyrical melodies glaze across the instrumental bed like butter on toast. Nathan Mitchell’s keys complement the sax perfectly, dovetailing in and out of the sax line, creating space for the sax and other instruments to solo where needed, and chiming in with his own virtuoso improv when it’s the right time for him to shine. That kind of restraint is seldom found amongst keyboardists of Mitchell’s stature. Together, the two smooth jazz heavyweights create a brilliant musical conversation that spans the entire song.
Annie Malee adds sweet honey vocals to the mix, Georgi Manga pulls double duty as a talented arranger and bass and drum musician, and Noah Fowler supplies a fun, funky electric guitar solo which sits right in the pocket of the groove.
The resulting team effort is a sizzling, satisfying single, which is a brilliant showcase for all involved.
